WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The Wallaroo Camera Club was listed in the directory of photographic societies published in the Australasian Photo-Review from 1911 to 1916 with Walter H. Sedgely as secretary, but may have been active before that date. However, it seems the club may have been disbanded before 1916 as Walter Sedgely had moved to Port Augusta as a railway traffic superintendent by 1915 and a new camera club was formed in 1917 with no reference to an earlier club.
In August 1917 a number of ladies and gentlemen interested in photography met at the Wallaroo Institute and unanimously resolved that a club be formed to be known as the Wallaroo Camera Club. Mr J.J. Jones, a carpenter, was elected president, the secretary was H. Lower, and the committee included E.F. Newberry, a chemist, and three women, Misses G. Davey, D. Bowman, and M. Furner. In October the club was showing promise of much success in the development of the art of photography and in the clubs Child Study competition the first prize was awarded to Mr J.J. Jones.
